More Pappy Van Winkle bottles will soon be in stock for sale, but theres a catch

A super limited batch of Pappy Van Winkle will begin shipping in April of 2017 to retailers. It comes from just 11 barrels which make up a total of 710 bottles. And it is a 25 year old special edition bourbon. The bourbon was distilled in 1989 an stored at the Van Winkle family distillery until being moved to the Buffalo Trace Distillery’s warehouses in 2002, where they were aged for another 12 yrs. Then in 2014, the barrels were put into stainless steel tanks to halt the aging process.

A wooden box created by Heritage Handcrafted completes the package; it's made with oak staves from the 11 barrels that held the bourbon as it was aging, and a metal plaque on its exterior commemorates the time that the liquid spent "asleep 25 years in the wood." Inside is a bourbon certificate of authenticity, numbered and signed by Julian Van Winkle, grandson of the original Julian P. "Pappy" Van Winkle, Sr., who founded the distillery.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime offering," Van Winkle said of the 710 bottles, which will begin shipping spring.

The retail price is set at $1,800 but as soon as it hits the secondary market, it is expected people will be selling it for $3000 to $6000.
