25 year, extremely year up for grabs in Virginia ABC lottery

Want to score a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon billed as “extremely rare” and “once-in-a-lifetime”?
The only wrinkle: You’ll need about $1,800, and some luck.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control will open a lottery this week for the chance to buy one of 10 bottles of the 25-year bourbon, the fourth such lottery since 2016 to feature a product from the Van Winkle distillery.

Here’s how the ABC lottery works: First, submit your name and ABC store number on the state website. The lucky few will then be notified if the software program that picks random entries chooses theirs, and will be allowed to buy a bottle. Each retails for $1,799.99.

State officials periodically run such lotteries for highly sought-after liquors.
